For this reason, frozen samples are always used.

The use of sperm from more than one donor during a treatment cycle is prohibited.

The maximum number of children that may be born from the sperm of the same donor depends on the rules and regulations of each country.

The laboratory operates with state-of-the-art equipment, highly trained scientists and rigorous quality control procedures.

Non-ID Release and ID Release Sperm Donor

The legal status regarding ID-release sperm donors varies significantly from country to country. Some countries only allow anonymous donation, while in others it is mandatory for donors to be identified. In this case, children conceived by donors have the legal right to know the identity of their donor once they reach a certain age (usually 18) and, if the donor agrees, to contact them.
Sperm donation in Greece is anonymous. Therefore, the donor’s details are not disclosed to the recipients. Similarly, the details of the couple receiving the donor sample, as well as the child or children born by this process, are not disclosed to the donor of the genetic material. Recently, the legal framework in Greece has changed, allowing the use of ID-release donors and giving the opportunity to the recipients to decide on what suits their needs best.

Donor medical information

The detailed laboratory testing includes:

Semen analysis (macroscopic and microscopic examination including sperm count, round cell count and differentiation, assessment of sperm motility, vitality and morphology)

Viability testing after thawing

Complete microbiological testing including: aerobic and anaerobic culture for common microbes, testing for Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasma hominis, Mycoplasma genitalium, Ureaplasma urealyticum, Ureaplasma parvum, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Herpes simplex 1, Herpes simplex 2,Trichomonas vaginalis, Haemophilus ducreyi, Treponema pallidum, Candida albicans, Gardnerella vaginalis, Group B Streptococcus using the PCR method

Checking sperm DNA fragmentation using flow cytometry, with the Evenson method, which is an objective method widely used in the literature

Blood type / Rh

Testing for HIV (anti-HIV I/II), hepatitis B (HBsAg), hepatitis C (anti-HCV), serological testing for treponema (RPR/VDRL) and molecular testing for HIV, HBV, HCV.
